Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that he has been receiving threats following his criticism of the Nigerian economy on an American podcast, The Big Homies House.
Recall that Davido had on the podcast warned black Americans against contemplating relocation to Africa, especially Nigeria, saying the country’s economy is in “shambles.”
His comments sparked backlash, with prominent Nigerians such as Joe Igbokwe, Reno Omokri, Patrick Doyle and others openly criticizing him. While many were attacking him over comments, Nigerians like Verydarkman, Anita Joseph, Paulo Okoye and others supported him.
Reacting to the backlash, Davido claimed his critics are angry because entertainers are the “real ambassadors”, representing Nigeria and its interest in diaspora.
In a new post, Davido alleged that there are threats to cancel his show in Lagos this December over his remarks.
He wrote, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
