Tochi Wigwe, daughter of the late Herbert Wigwe, delivered a heartfelt speech during the maiden matriculation ceremony of Wigwe University, founded by her father.
The event, held on November 14, 2024, came nearly a month after the school commenced academic activities.
Wigwe University began operations approximately 240 days after the tragic passing of its founder, Herbert Wigwe, who was the former CEO of Access Bank.
Nearly a month after opening its doors to new students, Wigwe University held its first matriculation ceremony to officially welcome them.
Eugene Abels, who attended the event, shared a video of Tochi Wigwe’s heartfelt speech on his Facebook page, capturing the memorable moment.
Tochi Wigwe took to the podium, warmly greeting the attendees and introducing herself. Speaking on behalf of her family, she expressed gratitude to the students and guests for their presence.
She praised the students for their creativity, mentioning how their TikTok content brings her joy daily. After her speech, she posed for photos with the students, further solidifying the connection with the vibrant student community.

Tochi said: “I must confess, I’m constantly watching your TikToks and honestly; they make me smile everyday. You guys are so creative; so full of energy its honestly contagious.”
During her speech, Tochi Wigwe shared three key lessons she has learned on her life journey, offering words of wisdom to inspire the students as they embark on their academic pursuits.
In her words; “Number one, you only miss opportunities you do not take. Number two, you’re so much stronger and braver than you ever think. And the final one, God will never give you a battle you are not equipped to handle.”
Tochi Wigwe became emotional towards the end of her speech, shedding tears as she passionately encouraged the students to “show up and show out” in all their endeavors. Her heartfelt words left a lasting impression on the audience.
